I've recently installed WinXP Pro on my HP Pavillion 503w(P4 1.6GHz, 768 MB Ram; nVidia 440 8x agp PCI Vid) and now when I try to initiate the Copy Audio CD function on Nero Burning Rom(ver.5.5 bundled) it starts burning the image to copy, hangs and crashs to the blue screen o' death with the "kernel data inpage error" message displayed along with abunch of codes and stuff. A web search on google turned up a handful of pages, mostly in chinese, that refer to this, but nothing useful so far. I've run various modules in SIS Sandra, but again no clues as to whats going on. Has anyone else run into this particular error(for any reason) and any idea what to do about it?

Searching for "kernel data inpage error" on google, the first site in chinese on this error translates:

    ....the link is translated here.

So...seeing as you were using Nero when this happened, I would tend to believe it may be caused by your RAM (I'll leave the hardware gurus to help with that). But to be safe, you could run a couple of online virus scans as well. 2 well known ones are Panda ActiveScan and Trends Housecall.

    Regards,
    Jade.

Already ran the virus scan(AVG 6.0), came up clean. SANDRA doesn't seem to indicate anything amiss with the RAM but it might miss something. CHKDSK has run on startup after each crash and supposedly fixed some faulty sectors but it keeps happening. I'll run it again and next time I get the blue screen I'll record the relevant codes and post them to this thread.

Try downloading and running Microsofts Memory Diagnostic from here. Let the test run for at least 5 passes and see if it gives you any errors.

Ok, ran the windows memory utility, 5 passes regular and 9 extended and no errors. Am going to check the Western Digital(the hardisk manufactures site for a specialized disk utility. Otherwise, any sugestions?
