    Hi all!

    This might not be the appropriate forum, but at least someone will get annoyed and answer perhaps.

    I have a problem with my HP Pavillion Entertainment PC Laptop. Every other time I log in I get numlock activated. No prob you all say, just hit fn-numlk ... well it seems my fn key does not work at all!!! I cant get a screen dump, cant switch screens, change brightness and so on.

    Next it seems < and > does not work, (those chars are cut and pasted here in this post) nor does some other keys very undispensable when programming.

    It seems this cooks down to a key programming issue, where I need to get control of the key map. I saw a program useable for this sort of thing, but that was some 20 year ago, on a very old computer, and I dont seem to find a modern one. Does anyone recognize this problem and have any hint for me? Bottom line - I need to be able to get control of what my keys output.

    Cheers, Doc. :)

    Welcome to the forums...this might better be addressed in either the software or hardware forums. So I will throw out a question;

    Have you tried a usb keyboard?

    Hi - thanx! I tried to post a new thread in the computer maintenance forum, but was not allowed to do so.

    Nope, I havent tried any external keyboard. I might add some further info about my laptop though: It was equipped with a buggy motherboard which froze beyond any repair not long ago, and I got it replaced for free. Since then these problems seem to have emerged.

    Can a motherboard have unchangeable properties concerning keymapping - i mean could they have put in a motherboard not compatible with my keyboard by accident? Isn´t keymapping software controlled?

    cheers Doc.

    Hi Doc, Are you saying this problem started directly after the motherboard was swapped out? If this is the case, it's quite possible that who ever did the work didn't quite seat the keyboard connector properly..

    Hi. thanx.

    Can this be the cause of the output ' and * instead of the < and >? I would have guessed that there´d be no output at all from those keys. btw the fn key outputs the rmb-menu.

    If so is the case anyway is this a matter I dare dealing with myself? I don´t usually hesitate doing hardware work, but it is a more delicate matter with a laptop, not as crude a one dealing with desktops.

    cheers, doc.
