Alright so, this has always happened to me for a while, and it never really bothered me becaus it just said 'KEYBOARD FAILURE' for a few seconds and went away.. but after I updated my Intel BIOS on Dells site, it seems that the first time I boot, it wants to have me press F1 to skip. Funny thing is, at that time, my Dell Media Keyboard is not online, so I cant. I then shut it off and turn it back on, and it just shows it for a second and then goes on with life.

    Any help I can get?

    Hi AL3X416...

Easiest fix I can think of since you're running XP; is to use the Windows System Restore utility. Be sure to pick a restore point back to just prior to when you "updated the Intel BIOS" on Dells site. In the future NEVER update anything without creating a System Restore Point first.

Additionally, I currently use a tiny freeware utility called System Restore Point Creator in order to quickly create System Restore Points whenever I choose - without having to hunt down the System Restore Utility in the Start > Programs > Accessory folder. It takes like 5 seconds to create and name a restore point using this utility! You can also use this utility for scheduling a system restore point creation every day, week, etc.

Note: Just so you know, it's not really that "no one can help" you. The fact is that late Sunday night is generally not the very best time to find "immediate" answers on this board and your first post was at 18:41 EST and the second at 22:00 EST; just a little while later. Sometimes you just got to be a little patient, here. ;)

Since you're apparently new here, I can tell you without any doubt in my mind that if someone knows the answer they will post it right after they see your post. And even if it is a "slow" night, you'll eventually have the very best chance of getting the most reliable and workable solutions here rather than many other boards out there.

I actually post on several computer-related boards on the web and this is most definitely one of the best as far as member participants posting correct answers and the forum has always been well managed and overseen by the Major Geeks owners and staff.

Additionally, you've got to admit... you can't beat the price! ;)

    Good Luck!

Alright, thats all installed and I'll restart to see if it does anything in a few.. thanks.

Compuable, I know how I said it and what I didnt say made you think that restoring would make it better, but I got a keyboard error before I updated BIOS even. The BIOS have nothing to do with It, but thanks anyways for your help, and no worries, I know all about system restore points.

EDIT - And that freeware rocks, thanks for the hint. Windows native programs are never good, eh?

Oh, sorry about that... I thought you meant "but after I updated my Intel BIOS on Dells site, it seems that the first time I boot, it wants to have me press F1 to skip."

In any case; like you said, no worries and I hope that BirdBath advice about installing the latest driver from Dell for your model works for you... ;)

Well, let's just say that in my opinion all of the "freebie" extra Microsoft add-ons like Internet Explorer, Disk Defragmenter, System Restore, Disk Cleanup, etc are "underdeveloped," buggy; and in general - leave much to be desired. On the positive side though, there are almost always "better" developed freeware alternatives to these particular Microsoft utilities.

Additionally, somewhat coincidentally I set up a very basic website called FreewareRocks.com (mostly for my relatives and disabled friends who like freeware). I don't really add all that much to it very often, but it was fun setting it up. ;)

    Good Luck!
