Keyboard/mousepad problem?

Hi,

I am currently attempting to fix an Acer Aspire 3002 laptop.

The computer was given to me to fix after the owner found the computer crashing whilst using the recovery disks. Unfortunately I do not know the sytoms of the problems he was experiencing that led to wanting to use the recovery disk in much detail since he isnt very computer literate but computer had ground to a halt through what he had thought might be viruses.

I tried the recovery disks myself and worked fine untill windows xp setup required user input regional settings etc... then crashed.

I then tried windows xp install disk after reformatting the drive. Worked untill windows install required user input again... then crashed.

Next I tried an unattended edition of windows xp (windowsue) and the install crashed 90% through "registering componets".

Replaced RAM. Same probmlem. Scan Hard Disk No Problem. Ran a series of system diagnostic tests from a boot cd on cpu and motherboard, no problem found.

Ran Windows XP install with USB mouse and keyboard attached and installed fine. Windows also worked fine. Reinstalled all acer drivers... The computer still works but only whilst usb keyboard and mouse are connected. When disconnected I cant use laptop keyboard or touchpad and usb peripherals will not work if reconnected untill rebooting the system. Clean boot without usb mouse and keyboard connected crashes within seconds of windows loading.

Just can't figure it out! Onboard keyboard and mouse work fine on applications I have run on a bootable cd. Would suggest driver problems? But the manufacturers disks do not work or generic windows drivers from win xp disk?

Any help would be much appreciated, am puzzled!

PS I have setuptxt.log 's from all windows install crashes if anyone interested.
