Keyboard mystery.. I am at a loss

A friend of mine is having a really strange issue with his keyboard. He tells me that it works normal in most pre loaded windows software, (i.e. Internet explorer, etc..) though multiple other programs such as world of warcraft and ventrillo fail to recognize letter keys, though it does pick up esc, enter, and so on. From what we can gather it started after he swapped out his video card, though uninstalling the drivers and rolling the system back did not solve the issue. Any ideas?

Have you tried a different keyboard? If the current keyboard is a PS2 keyboard, try a USB keyboard... if it's USB, try a PS2 keyboard. If the same thing happens with a different keyboard, then it's a problem in Windows and it could be that somehow a setting somewhere is telling 'outside' programs to use the keyboard as if it were a German keyboard (for example). Have you tried setting the BIOS settings to default? I know some BIOSes have language settings that can mess up the keyboard functionality....

Have you gone to the manufacturer of the keyboard site and searched for updates? Have you looked for a "Restore Point" before the installation of the Drivers and or swap of Video Cards?

The swap of a Video cards generally needs a complete removal and re-installation of Video Drivers (even if their the latest and thus same driver, hardware and software still need to "meet and greet" with the Hardware being the host). This may and can affect other software.

 

I meant to ask is this a wireless keyboard thus in need of "Drivers"?
