Hi there My friends keyboard isn't working. I have tried using 2 other keyboards but they are not working either. She has password protected her user profile but has a guest one that she can access. However she does not have admin privilages on this account of course so she cant run any scans to check if this is possibly malware. Pretty stuck on this one as cant access safemode or msconfig (or virtually anything else) without keyboard. Thanks for your help!!! (Should mention that lights on keyboard flash when restarting the comp but then go out.)

    Hi mneenee,

I'm going to presume that if your friend has been using a USB keyboard that he/she has tried a PS2 keyboard, or vice-versa?

    Hi Puppy,

No I haven't tried a usb keyboard she only has PS2. But will try that. Can I ask why it might work? Just curious. Also if i use a usb converter is that ok? Thanks

And it sounds like you have but you need to plug the keyboard in when the computer is off or restart after plugging it in.

Edit: just say your last post. Usually a PS2 will always work but a USB might not work in BIOS. So if you had been using a USB it is recommended to try a PS2 to enter BIOS.

You can try the USB it may work if the PS2 is not working because of a bent pin or something. Can't hurt. Just to be clear the keyboard has to be connected before you start the computer.

That is the easiest thing to forget. It has to be recognized by POST/BIOS. I think everyone has done it--I know I have! :)
