It was the night before Christmas, as the carol goes, and my keyboard decided to have an early night. The "T" and the "Y" stopped working. I have removed the keys swept, vaccuumed and dusted the keyboard, replaced the problem letter keys and still nothing happens. They have NOT been drinking or eating biscuits. Warranty expired in September. Any suggestions please as to how to fix it myself or is it a real service engineer job. The Computer is an HP Notebook Pavilion dv6.

Not the Christmas present I wanted.

Hope you all had a good day and all the best for the New Year

    Cheers

If one or more keys won't respond, the only options are to either replace the HP keyboard or (as a temp. fix) attach a USB external keyboard.

If you take the PC to a repair shop, the parts and labor should run about $80-$100 USD. Another option is to do the labor yourself (on most HP models, it only requires loosening the bezel above the keyboard plus a few screws to replace it). I've purchased non-OEM HP keyboards on eBay and Amazon for about $20 + shipping.

    Hope this helps. :)

Re: Keyboard problem HP Pavilion 6dv-2119TX

Hi Gman - I managed to find the correct keyboard on Ebay and fixed it yesterday - as you can see all working. Thanks for your help.

However - on following the HP Manual instructions I had a problem lifting the keyboard off the base, there were three other screws that I could not find and are not mentioned in the Manual. Brute force got the keyboard away, as it was damaged it did not really matter if I broke it. I removed the power ribbon and keyboard ribbon OK. The new keyboard had three round metal screw holders on the underside and these were the problem as I could not find how to remove them. I found one by removing the hard drive, but could not find where the others were. Can anyone help me locate these screws. My new keyboard is installed and works but has a slight curve in it with these extra metal holders. hope someone can understand what I am trying to explain.

    Tilly
