keyboard problem

I am not sure if this is a software or hardware problem....so here goes.

I am working on a laptop that is having keyboard problems. Spcifically, the keys "a s d f j k l ;" do not work. I have ran several spyware and virus programs thinking it was something malware related. That does not seem to have solved it. Is it just coincidence that these keys are the ones you use to start typing?

Any ideas that I can try?

I ran into this after repairing a laptop for a lady once, what happened was when I reattached the keyboard cable to the motherboard, it wasn't put in all the way. I don't know the layout of that laptop and or if you even want to open it but thats something to think of.

 

I'll bet it's a Dell.
I had Dell Latitude I too had few key's didnt work, I took mine apart & cleaned it, cable and connector too, then all was good.

If you have a Dell you probably can download service manual for your model at Dell's Web.

I just though it was too much of a strange coincidence to be hardware. I thought for sure it was software related...spyware or something. Only those eight keys do not work...the g and h in between work fine.

I will get a service manual and see what I can do.

Old business name. I have changed names...just havent changed usernames here. Used to be MKSolutions.net.
