Keyboard Problems

I've done something to my keyboard while typing out some text. I think it might have something to do with holding down the shift key to long. Whatever I did I can't hold shift to type capitals and if I try to type numbers I get the characters that are above them. I'm completely stumped. I held down shift again but don't understand what I might be meant to do.

Is it that Dell that you are having problems with the VGA. If so go to the Dell site and look for the manual that will tell you how to remove the keyboard.

It should be fairly easy to do. My advise would be take the keyboard off, try to see if anything looks 'odd' underneath it, then replace it and see if that sorts the issue.

I'm on a Mesh computer with a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse. I'm sure it's something to do with this shift key thing. Thanks for your interest rr

 

Try going to Start->Control Panel->Accessibility
Under Keyboard tab uncheck boxes for Use Sticky Keys and Use Filter Keys.

If it's a software problem this is probably the cause. Otherwise you may have a shift key that is physically sticking on your keyboard.

 

Thanks sach2 but i've already made sure these boxes are unchecked. The shift key in question is still physically moving on the keyboard but could it still be stuck somehow? As I said prviously I inadvertantly held the key down for more than eight seconds. Also while trying to sort it out sometimes I can't type anything at all.

 

Apologies for my earlier confusion malcky.

In the first instance, is it possible to replace the wireless kb and mouse with p/s2 varieties, just to make sure that everything works ok with that line up.

You could try the keyboard test program mentioned in this thread. Keyboards can have dodgy keys that still appear to move freely. If the problem reappears it might be worth a look.
