keyboard problems

Hello, I'm new to this forum but have used it as a reliable resource for clearing the rubbish off my hard drive, thanks
The problem I'm having is with my laptop and has been driving me nuts. My keyboard which until i went on holiday for a week was fine. When i got home I powered up to find that my keyboard wouldn't work.
My laptop spec is:
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium with
Service Pack 1 (32-bit)
Processor
AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core Mobile Processor
RM-70
Memory
3072 MB (1 x 1024 MB + 1 x 2048 MB)
160 GB SATA Hard Disk Drive 5400 rpm
NVIDIA GeForce 8200M

Firstly the keyboard doesn't work when trying to get into bios or anything on boot up.
Second. When windows loads i can use my keyboard for around 30seconds to 1minute. enough time to log on and type my password in but then stops working.
Thirdly. I was using on Screen Keyboard, until i figured i could go into control panel and change the Repeat Rate and type in the test box, This makes the keyboard work until i restart or shut the lid which puts it on hibernate.

I have tried reinstalling drivers, Uninstalling rebooting to re install the driver. Iv run virus scans to check for viruses and trojans. Im at my wits end. so frustrating.

ps. the keyboard is Standard 101/102-key or Natural PS/2 keyboard with HP QBL

 

I shall try and get hold of a USB keyboard and have a gander at any changes in bios
