Keyboard Question?

So after slopping a little coffee into my keyboard, which promptly died. I bought this one. The jury is still out whether I will keep it or not. The main feature I was looking for was volume control. I would have liked to have had a backlit keyboard, but it was the end of the month and money was tight. As it is, I really don't like the fact that I had to hit function to get a print screen up. Which leads to another question, I've looked at it for years and wondered why is the scroll lock there and what does it do? This seemed the logical place to ask.

Google shows us it used scroll the contents of a page instead of moving the cursor. It is rarely used these days - except in large Excel spreadsheets and few other programs.

Two button functions are my bane. This is why the new keyboard is being auditioned and may not pass. The keyboard you pointed out, requires two buttons to use the volume controls. I prefer wired (batteries add up over time) and for the better connection. Too many wireless gadgets in one place tend to interfere with each other. Thank you for this suggestion. I reviewed Amazon quite carefully before I bought this one. I also prefer subdued back lighting.

While we are talking about the input devices, my current mouse has a fire key which I have found very useful for selecting a line. What do I look for for in a wired mouse that has the same function?

Going with a wireless mouse and keyboard is why I moved to rechargeable batteries. They last 4 - 6 months. No regrets and certainly already paid for themselves.

I have several wireless devices here, no problems with connection or interference.

I have too. They are expensive.

I have had the problem with several devices.

Yes, rechargeable batteries are expensive upfront. And of course, you need a charger too. But over time, at least for me, they have paid for themselves several times over. And while I am not a true tree hugger, I do like the idea of not tossing so many non-rechargeable batteries into the landfills.

Not sure what to say about your interference problems. I even have 3 of this same Microsoft keyboard and mouse sets (6 devices) in the same small home office and they don't interfere with each other or other nearby devices. Maybe I'm just lucky, or you are not.

I never worried about batteries because we live near a Harbor Freight and I used to get coupons for 24 free heavy duty batteries. They've since stopped that.

I have an extremely old charger (Monster brand) and 4 very old AA rechargeable batteries. This is it, I'm not sure just how old it is but it works fine and has a foldable plug so it is easy to store in a desk drawer. https://www.ebay.com/itm/224285604337
I'm surprised that they are still useable. My MS desktop cordless mouse uses 2 at a time. They don't last me 4 - 6 months. I tried one in my laptop mouse and it did not work well probably because they are only 1800mAh.

I did some investigating and discovered that I did not need to purchase a new charger. The charger is a high price item.
Harbor Freight has 4-AA 2200 mAh batteries for $6.99 so I decided to buy them. They are good for 1,000 charges and discharges.

I tried one in my laptop mouse and it lasted for more than a month. Much better than the few hours I got from the older rechargeable. So if I have to recharge 12 times a year, that $6.99 investment will last me over 83 years for 1 rechargeable battery!
