Keyboard repeat problem

My keyboard repeat works - partly.

If I hold down a key - any key - it repeats several times on screen - then the screen display stops. (The number of repeats showing first time, varies).

However, if i continue to hold down for a few seconds longer, then release, it is obvious that the input was going to the computer, because a whole line of character (or backspaces) comes up.

The keyboard is old - a UK version which came with an bundle, long ago.

A label on reverse says 'ACCURATUS' by Ceratech - Model ACK-260A. It is not USB - (I think the term is PS2 - a purple plug into the tower).

I run Vista Ultimate 64 bit.

Using Control Panel/Keyboard Properties I can change repeat rates, etc., but not get the repeat to run smoothly after the first few characters register on the screen.

Any advice welcome - I hope I don't need to shell out for a new keyboard - I'm used to this one, and like it.

 

I hate to say this; but there is no economical way to repair a desktop keyboard.

You should be able to replace it with a keyboard using either a PS2 (purple) or USB connection. Try to avoid "cheater" plugs that convert a USB plug into a PS/2; they can cause issues.

I agree that a lot of the newer, cheaper keyboards don't have the nice "click" feel of the older ones. If you don't have a computer superstore nearby where you can "test drive" the feel of different models, my advice is to go with a Microsoft - although not exactly the feel of a 20-year old IBM keyboard, they're well built and reasonably priced.
