What is the keyboard shortcut for the Windows key? Just curious.... I have an ancient keyboard here (it is PS2 though) but it has no Windows key. I looked around at the MS Knowledge base and found a bunch of shortcuts that included the Windows key.... they do me no good.... I know there has to be a keyboard shortcut for keyboards that have no Windows key.... I found this list http://support.microsoft.com/kb/301583/en-us but it doesn't show any shortcuts that are equal to pressing the Windos key by itself....
    Thanks!

In XP if you don't have something else running that snags the keystrokes first, then it is Alt+S. If I try that with FF running I get the history menu.

Only thing that I've every been able to do was, bring up the On-Screen-Keyboard and use the Windows key from there.

    Start
    Run
    type
    osk
    Enter

On the On-Screen-Keyboard, you'll have to depress the mouse on the Windows key and the appropriate key on your keyboard at the same time.

    Windows key + Pause/Break = System Properties.

    :cool

Probably not a very good substitute, as you could probably get to items other ways with less clicks.:(

    Windows system key combinations
    • F1: Help
    • CTRL+ESC: Open Start menu
    • ALT+F4: Quit program
    • SHIFT+DELETE: Delete item permanently

CTRL+ESC works on Vista and XP for me or is that what's not working for you?

The windows key all alone opens the start menu; since ctrl+esc opens the start menu maybe those two keys replace the windows key.

I'm not using windows at the moment so I can't check.

Perfect! I think that's all that was needed. Occasionally my friend with the ancient keyboard has the entire screen filled and needs to bring up the start menu without having to change the picture to a smaller size. This is exactly what was needed (I think).
Thank you all for your help and suggestions!
