Keylog needed, no admin rights

I am not a geek, and I say that with the uptmost humility, but I need some help. I need a simple keystroke recorder/logger. Not for spying, but as personal record. I work from a laptop that is connected to the company via an Intra-net with common software installed. Staff are not allowed any admin rights. My problem is that when there is a glitch in the system I often loose extensive e-mails and sometimes even Word documents that are being typed. I was hoping to find something to work as a temporary backup to what I'm working on. Must be able to be installed w/o admin rights. Would be great if there was something that actually just ran off a CD when I needed it, or at least wouldn't cause any red flags to Admin when it's running. Free would be great too, but I wouldn't mind making a purchase. The ones I've checked are way too sophisticated for my needs, and require admin to install, and that ain't happenin'. Their answer to my problem is "never respond directly to an e-mail - - open Word, type it there, save frequently, and then paste it into your e-mail." Yeah, right!
