Looking for recommendations for free keylogger detection (and removal, if discovered) software.

Do programs like a-squared, Ad-Aware, Spybot etc address this issue? Thanks.

Alot of keyloggers install and then run themselves in stealth mode meaning you can't detect it using those programs.

Atleast the remote keyloggers I used to use never got detected by any of those.

I just know that part of the question, maybe some can be detected like that though.

Thanks Kestrel, but that search is the reason I'm asking for a recommendation here - it produces two pages of programs, most of which are obviously not primarily anti-keyloggers, and I don't have the time or knowledge to sift through that lot to find the 'best' anti-keylogging program.

There must be something(s) that the smart people here are doing that they could share.

At this point I would like to be able to scan for keyloggers, maybe the fox is already in the coop. After that one would want to be able to remove it.

Guarding against it would be good, but just being able to scan regularly would be fine.

I understand Firefox has an add-on to prevent 'hooking', the basic technique for keylogging, but it seems to have unsatisfactory reviews.

This has to be an issue of concern to all users, if someone has a useful suggestion I'm sure its going to more than just me that appreciates it.

Doofus, although it is not stated on the MG download page for A-Squared free, the A2 free homepage claims it is effective for finding and removing keyloggers. You can download it from MG here, but here is the A2 homepage link to verify :

A-squared (Free) is a program I use regularly, thanks. It is often recommended here as a back-up to a resident anti-virus program.

It would be reassuring to know that it is a comprehensive keylogger detector as well.

From what I understand the key logger that is hardest to detect is the one inline with the keyboard, and not actually installed on the computer. That said a-squared is a good scanner, but has only ever detected cookies on our pc, a good thing I'd say. Spybot S&D will detect some. A free online scan with Panda and Trend Micro would be an excellent place to start. The only other options I am aware of would be to use the on-screen keyboard or possibly encryption.
