"keys" Icon showing up on desktop???

    See attached picture.

    I have had this 'keys' icon show up about 3 times now. When I click to open, it pulls up Notepad (with nothing in it).

    Anyone have a clue what it is?

    I have no idea what I've been doing when it appears.

    I close out a window (browser, itunes, documents...dunno) and there it is on my desktop.

    I've thrown it into my recycle bin each time. I'd love to know where it's coming from though.

    Right click, select properties and see if you can find a path for the location.

    Hmmmm...now that you post that, I think I did run Ccleaner and did a registry scan and fix after trying to fix my itunes.

    C:\Users\user\Desktop



    Btw, the type of icon is: Configuration settings

    Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

    Laura, that's probably a desktop.ini file - check your WinExplorer Folder > View options, see if hidden files are unhidden. If so, hide them and see if it goes away.

    Used to see it a lot when MS Office had been recently used - and, unfortunately, there are desktop.ini-dropping malwares.

    I deleted the icon, unfortunately, but yes, I did have my hidden files unhidden. I changed that.

    I'm not showing any signs of infection.
