Keystrokes during browser session open more browser windows

My laptop runs Windows 2000. I have switched from IE 6.0 to Firefox, but this issue persists.

When I am using a browser, multiple windows open during the browser session. With IE it opened my homepage, regardless of the site that I selected as homepage. With Firefox, it opens the Firefox download page.

I have run and continue to run, Adaware SE, Microsoft Anti-spy, Avast, PopUp Stopper Pro, WinPatrol Plus. I have also run, but have deleted, HijackThis and Spy Sweeper and Spybot, too. I posted the hijackthis log to an auto-analysis site and it checked out fine.

I have narrowed down the occurrence to ANY initial keystroke into a search (such as either Google or Alta Vista) websites, or into a search on a specific web site, like I tried here to find a post on a similar problem.

At least in IE 6.0, there appeared to be a time trigger as well, though I have not seen that, yet, in Firefox. I changed to Firefox on the laptop this morning, thinking (hoping) that it was ultimately an IE issue. It is not.

Any suggestions appreciated greatly.

 

Did you import the IE settings when you installed the Firefox? If you did that then Firefox will act the same. So I suggest uninstall and reinstall the Firefox without importing the IE settings.
