It used to be that one of the best things you could do to create more room on your computer hard drive was to delete all of the .tmp files. You did a search on ".tmp" and deleted all of the results.

Now, we have these monster hard drives that have so many files that are interdependent that it is rather scary to even contemplate eliminating all of the .tmp files.

Today, I did a search on my drives and came up with a whopping 25,928 .tmp files. All of these files are taking up space on my hard drive and I would like to kill them. However ...

Are there any I should avoid specifically? The number is astounding. If I simply say delete all *.tmp files how much damage would/could that do, if any?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

I delete all the tmp files on my pc semi-regularly. Any files that are needed by windows are generally locked and refuse to be deleted, so it's a safe procedure.

You could safely run both CCLeaner and ATF Cleaner. Then to make sure, go to start / run / and type:
%temp% and delete those. A few may not allow you to delete them, but that is ok.
