I downloaded Knoppix and burned it to a CD RW (yes I downloaded the correct version). Whenever I start my computer with the Knoppix CD in the CD drive it doesn't start. I checked the BIOS and it is supposed to boot from the CD drive before the hard drive. Does anyone have any ideas why it won't boot on startup?

Did you burn it as an ISO as a normal burn won't cut it.

"No APM in BIOS" was the message I got while trying a "live" cd of a linux distro recently. The only desktop system we have with APM I canned for parts recently, its CPU ran at 199MHz.

Thar's your problem, burn as ISO and enjoy though there is a bit of lag but that goes for all LiveCDs.

    Yup!

Note that you will need the correct application to translate the image file into the disc's contents, otherwise, you'll just get a disc with an .ISO file on it. (I've done that a few times)

Nero is one that's capable of doing it.
My personal favourite is ImgBurn which is freeware meant specifically for this task.

Strange about Nero for you, I just double click the ISO file and Nero takes care of the rest.confused

Thanks, I tried with Nero and it didn't work so I used ImgBurn and I love it! Thanks alot.

Same here, Nero didn't do it right which was weird, but like I said, I used ImgBurn and it worked great. I finally have Knoppix :D

Heh... sorry, I should have mentioned you need to select the correct utility in Nero to do this. There's just so many types of discs Nero can create, that it is easy to select the wrong one.

Glad you've got it figured out!
