Know anything bout video cards??

I just bought an ATI X-800 Pro from Compusa for $400 dollars a few days ago because I felt it was time for an upgrade. Anyway, I installed it to my AGP slot and downloaded and installed the latest 4.10 ATI drivers. I started to play Counter-Strike (old version not CS-Source) and to my surprise I was getting anywhere from 25 - 75 FPS. I have no idea why because when I had my Radeon 9800 Pro I was getting anywhere from 90-100 FPS. It is definetly detecting my video card so that is not a problem. I also have V-Sync turned off so that is not it either. In my advanced video settings it says that my video card temperature is around 60 degrees celsius (while NOT playing any games) but I have no idea if that is good or bad. So I really have no clue what can be wrong. These are my current stats:

2.0 Ghz P4 with 433 FSB
1 GB Geil Ram
120 GB Maxtor HD
MSI 865PE Neo2-PS System Board
6 Fans total in my case
Monitor refresh rate set at 85 Hertz

I know that my pc should definetly be able to get more then 25-75 FPS in a 5 year old game. So these are the things I believe it maybe. I think it is either my video card overheating which means the stock cooling it comes with is not good enough. Or maybe my processor needs an upgrade (which I was wanting to do a few months from now). Other then that I have no clue. Any advice ladies and gentlemen???

 

I suggest completly remove your drivers and reinstall them; alot of times when you had a previous vid card installed and your now going for a new card conflicts occur. If your old card was Nvidia i suggest reinstall.

 

i always format and reinstall everything when i get a new video card.
