I just got KOTOR, Its an awesome game but for some reason i have been having what i think is problems with my graphics card (9800 Pro).

For e.g. When im walking through the city, Taris, and then enter in the Northern Appartments, to loading screen will come up, but 2 out of 7 seven times it will eather, freeze, show a black screen, show a brown screen, or the game will come up but all the backgrounds are gone.(All black but i can see everyperson, even through walls because there not there, just black)

When i first started the game i had the graphics settings all the way up, Including some things that where called, Anti-anislinging, and some other Anti thing. I have no clue what they where.

I then turned off those extra settings, and only had High detail, Shadows and, Grass. It would only cause a problem every half hour.

I then turned down the graphics to medium, with shadows, and grass, and it would freeze about every hour.

Does this sound like my graphics card is the problem? I have the newest drivers from ATI.

Also i have played UT2004, and BFV with no problems with the graphics all the way up.

I dont think that KOTOR is more demanding then BFV when it comes to graphics, so there shouldnt be a problem.

Could it be possible that the card could be overheating?

Please let me know what you think. :)

I updated the game to 1.3 just befor i used it. My chipset drivers are the newest, and my Catalyst drivers are the newest. Unless ATI came out with newer ones in 2 weeks. :p

    Thanks,

    actually, I think they did.

anyway, try running the game with the side of your case off.

I checked ATI Website again, The newest drivers they have are 4.7 thats what i got.

Anyway i dont think case temp is the problem. Right now its at 29.4 C
Im just worried that the fan and heatsink on the card are not dispersing the heat effecently.

Ill take the side off and put a floor fan there to see if that helps at all.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

    Thanks so much!

I put a floor fan blowing air into the side of the case. I noticed a 4-6 degree C drop in all my components.

I played KOTOR with full graphics all the way up and so far it did not freeze!!! :) :) :)

Im going to post another thread in hardware for a cooling solution for my card. The fan is to noisy and all that dust and cat hair. :(

    Thanks again

Great game, but buggy. I've got an ATI 9700 PRO, and the game would crash frequently, usually when loading a new area. Nosed around on the manufacturer's web/forum and found advise to use the older 4.2 driver. That pretty much cured the crashing.

The gamma control in the game also refused to stay where I wanted it, so I set gamma & brightness in the ATI control panel.

It's playing fine for me now.

Buggy game, but a great one, if you can stand turn-based combat. Vast worlds and detailed characters & story. I love it.

That is exactly what is happening to me. Ill give the 4.2 drivers a try.
Maybe i dont need all that cooling now. :) Ya i get to actually save my money!

I have been having almost the same problems with KOTOR.

I have a Radeon 9800 XT. I have the latest drivers for everything.

The game will just randomly freeze or crash. This is the only game that I have problems with.

Oh well, I just save often and keep playing :)
