    Hello,

I have one question why is KOTOR run so slow on my system. I'm way over it's recommend settings. but even with with the game running in 800X600, texture packs on low and everything else off I'm still only getting 9-15 FPS? all i want is a stable frame rate of at least 20-25 FPS all throughout game play. I got those reading from Fraps....would those be accurate readings?

Here is everything i know (from EVEREST Benchmarking tool)

    Motherboard:
    CPU Type: Intel Celeron, 2600 MHz (26 x 100)
    Motherboard Name: Dell Dimension 2400
    Motherboard Chipset: Intel Brookdale-G i845GEV
System Memory: 1280 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM)
    BIOS Type: Phoenix (12/02/03)

    Display:
Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 (256 MB)
3D Accelerator: nVIDIA GeForce FX 5500

I just don't get why KOTOR 1 & 2 play so bad, i can play others games just fine. Just last night i was play Counter-strike with 8 other people and had 26- 40 FPS but KOTOR just kills my PC. I'm looking to upgrade my PC altogether to something better then a cheap dell PC. but just don't say get an 8800 that cost as much as my PC budget. about $350 is all i have to spare. I'm thinking a new MOBO/CPU(Duh...gonna need too, old wont work) and a 7600 GT which is really cheap right now on newegg.com. That should get me at least 30-50FPS in KOTOR with everything on high...right?

    Thank you for any help,

    Kris

Are you running the latest drivers on that Nvidia card? If not, update, and report back when you have. :)

I had very similar problems running both games not long ago, using a 2.4GHz P4, 2GB RAM and a GeForce 6800. I managed to fix it, thanks to the forums over at Bioware, and if I can find that fix again, I'll post a link here for you.

Yeah i already updated my drivers before i even had the game and the game my drivers for the card are 162.18 version and the game is 1.03.

    is 162.18 right?....as i went from i think 96.??-97.?? to 162.18?

But thats what it gave me for the FX series.

I even tried a no-cd.exe because i asked a friend and he said that the Cd drive could cause slowdowns so he sent me a No-cd.exe and it was still slow. so now I'm back to the normal CD playing because i just didn't like having that thing on computer.

i would like to play this game in a good frame rate other wise i just wasted $30 until i upgrade to a better video card and CPU.

Okay, lets try a new approach then... What exactly do you have enabled in your graphics settings, and does the problem go away if you turn off anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering?

Oh, if the above doesn't take your problem away, let me know, I have a few fixes that might help you out, but let's do the basic stuff first :)

    Hello,

Well, i turned my video card to Performance in the Nvidia control panel and it did nothing but make it so it don't grow lower then 10 FPS in areas. i never have AA on or any filtering on as my computer gets slower with them on.

hopefully i can just edit some game files or something to get at least a constant 20-30 FPS on this game. I just need a fix because i was talking to a friend that an FX5200 that i think is slower then mine and he runs the game fine.

I have nothing on BTW i have texture pack on low - no shadows, no grass everything is off or on low.

    Try this then:

    1. Go into your swkotor.ini file and open it as a text file. The file is located by default in C:\program files\lucasarts\swkotor.

2.Add the line Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1 somewhere under the [graphics options] section.

It's a fix for a problem slightly different from what you're describing, but you're going to need it later anyway, or Dantooine will become unplayable. If it doesn't help, look through the sticky threads in this forum, and see if any of them has a solution for you.

    Hello,

Thanks for helping, but putting that down in the file makes the game slower.... i used to get 15-35 FPS inside but with that in there i was getting 9- 12 FPS and 1-4 outside....and i also got past the jedi planet without a problem. so i don't need it anyway.

But i have just come to the assumption of, this all the speed my system can pump out for this game.... just bad programming or something cause far cry plays great, HL2 played great and counter strike played great.

and I've looked at that forum before and there is nothing for my problem.. but i need to upgrade my comp anyway... it's falling way behind in graphical power and just getting worse.

Is your card agp or pci-e?
    If it's a pci-e 16x get your self a ati x700 pro 256 but stay away from x1550 it's slow!
I've played both kotor1 and 2 with my x700 and it runs fine:D!!!
