OK, I finally installed Kubuntu on my old 1 GhZ Celly with an RTL8139 card. eth0 is being recognized properly but I can't connect, even to google. When I was triple booting on my main rig with Kubuntu, I had immediate connectivity through my D-Link 524, which I also power cycled just for the heck of it. I must be missing something simple.:confused

    EDIT: Kubuntu 7.04

    IP address? Default gateway?

ifconfig is the command line command to find this out.

OK, I'll check those out. Should they be the same as XP?

I get the error '/bin/sh: /ipconfig not found' or close to that. I ran it from the 'Run Command'

Ya, tried both ifconfig which just didn't give any messages, and /ifconfig which gave me the error 'Could not run the specified command'.

Ok...why arent you using the bash shell?

Noting this in a previous reply:

    /bin/sh

Hmm, never heard of it and it seems to be way over my head.:confused Can you tell I need a *nix 101? I'll hit the *nix sites harder to find a common issue. It just doesn't make sense why one rig works when the other doesn't.

Just found the info you asked for before. IP Address 127.0.0.1 and mask is 255.0.0.0 That's obviously not right Adryn.

So I changed the IP Address to 192.168.0.102, the mask to 255.255.255.0 and the gateway to 192.168.0.1 and it works! :celebrate

Thank you so much for the hint to the gateway which led me to the other changes that I did. It's just weird that it would work on my main rig but not on the old one?

*nix certainly needs some homework though I didn't find anything with google, sweat equity did it!

Anyways, it all works now.:) Thanks again!

BTW, this is only the start of my Q's.:p
