Labeling my cables

I'm looking for a method of labeling my cables that will last. I've tried paper file labels wrapped around the cable but they don't last very long before getting torn. Any suggestions?

3M makes a write on label that comes in a dispenser. You write on the label with a pen, remove it from the dispenser, and attach it to the cable. The great thing about these labels is there is a clear plastic piece (part of the label itself) that wraps around the cable and protects your writing. I can get you a link if you need one. We use them all the time in the electrical trade.

I use masking tape and an ultra fine "Sharpie". Same labels in use for several months.

 

White insulating tape works well, but it will rub off if you don't use a permenant marker.#

Check out this link. I thought the labels were manufactured by 3M. Turns out they're made by a company called Brady. The labels come in many styles (length, width, color, etc.). These labels have always worked great for me when identifying low voltage cabling. Hope this helps,
