Afriend brought her hewlett packard over tonight to be tweaked. It was running win 98 with 32 megs of ram and 5 g hardrive. We upgraded her ram but it turns out while using a disk cleaning utility she removed the d drive. It isn't in the Directory, or any other, folder.
I tried a boot up disk and that didn't help, what do i do??

What are the specs of the puter? Which OS is it? Did you try booting from a CD-Rom? If yes, see if you can set the BIOS to primarily boot from a CD-Rom the drive will be created.

the os is win 98 and it can't boot from cd drive as there isn't one detected. it also gives an error message when i booted from a floppy but it was a generic and maybe i should make a boot disk from the os???

I'm assuming by D drive you mean CD-ROM drive as per your above post. If that's the case, then open the case up and make sure that the IDE cable is secured on both the CD-ROM drive and the Motherboard.

it is also quite possible that the cd-rom is bad, but check all the cables first, and make sure the BIOS is set to auto.
