I have a Linksys WMP54G PCI adapter with a nice sized antenna, connected to a BEFW14S (i think that's the model number) Linksys router.

I get a very strong signal, but every few minutes while playing counter-strike, I get hard lag spikes.

Steam's FAQ says it's due to the wireless connection, and I believe it >_>

Is there anyway to minimize the amount of lag spiking with a wireless connection?

My router has the latest firmware and all that good stuff.

I had this too on my laptop for a while. I never found a solution but the problem seems to have gone away without me changing anything.

I suggest trying a different channel on your wireless network card. You'll have to change the channel on the router too.
For the card, go into device manager and find it, right click it, properties, advanced, its in there. For the router, you have to use a browser. Type 192.168.1.1 into your browser to access the settings.
Change them both to the same channel, try 1, 6 or 11.
