I bought the XP Pro uninstalled (to have the disks???) and loaded everything. My XP Pro and I am guessing as yours did came with text services which allows you to talk to a text software program such as microsoft word making manual typing of text obsolete. Cool yes but that language bar instigates the user ie. like you and I. I do use this feature rarely but I do. So to get right to your question the answere is this: Control Panel to Languages to Text Services and input languages to Details unselect the Show the Language bar on the desktop.
FYI this information has been brought to me and now I share with you from the Start to the Help Support option type in language bar. However I must admit I spent two months turning it on and off manually and it eats a good bit of memory just sitting there on the desk top.
