I am using XP SP2. I added a second language for keyboard entry via the Regional and Language Options entry of the Control Panel. Even though I set it to English, the date (month, day) appears in the other language. This appears in every program that shows the day and month, including the clock on the system tray.

Does anyone know if this is just a quirk in XP, or if there is some way to correct this?

    Thanks,

    Bruce

Check the Regional Options tab under The Regional and Language settings window. It is separate from the Languages tab you use to select input language. I believe this is what controls clock and measurement views. Just select English U.S. in the drop down box and see if this corrects the problem.

From my experience, the date format is determined by the setting of 'Location' in the 'Regional and Language Options' panel. I have set it to 'Japan', and ever since all my dates appear in Japanese format.

Everything showed properly: English and English for US, and I never changed the formats, even though they might have changed automatically when I changed the language (I did not look). In any case, I fixed it. I undid the changes by deleting the second language, unchecking the right-to-left selection. and rebooting.
This time I selected the right-to-left selection first, and rebooted. Then I added the second language (a right-to-left language). Previously, I had added the second language first. Now it works properly.
I had read somewhere, after doing it the first time, that the right-to-left selection should be done first, but it did not mention what happens if it is not first. I don't know if this is what corrected it, but it's the only difference I remember.
    Thanks for all your advice.

Thanks for the feedback with your instructions how to fix it. I'm sure it will help someone some day.
