Hi guys, my friend asked me to select an ac adapter for his laptop in which he lost his ac adapter.

I would like you guys to weigh in, on what to purchase.

His laptop is Toshiba Satellite E205-S1904
    AC Adapter specs
    Input: 100-240V , 1.6 A , 50-60 Hz
    Output: 19V , 3.42 A

and his options so far are:

The one for $28.99 US doesn't specify what the wattage is (plus, it doesn't appear to have the carry pouch like the other two).

The other two seem to be identical in every aspect so, I'd go with the one for $17.88 US (since I'm on a limited, fixed income).

If me, I would do again what I did before and buy a "good" universal supply. I purchased the Rosewill RMNA-12001, 90W Universal Automatic Power Adapter and keep it in my tool bag for when I make housecalls. This model comes with 13 tips to ensure support for virtually any brand and the sensors automatically detect and select the proper voltage. Very cool and simple.

This particular model seems to be very popular as both Newegg and Amazon are currently out of stock but I paid $20 for mine.

Oh, and it works perfectly on my Toshiba, and also on the Dell, HP, Acer, and IBM notebooks I have tried it on.

I didn't even know you could have a universal adapter for laptops. I have seen where people say generic adapters for Dell machines don't charge the battery, because it's missing a programmed transistor chip with a pre-programmed code by Dell to identify the correct adapter; it will however, still operate the machine under ac, as long as it is plugged in.

But thanks for the suggestion, I will definitely have my friend consider it.:)

As I noted, I have used this on Dell notebooks too - with no problems with charging the batteries or using the notebooks with or without batteries. It comes with "special" tips for Dell and HP notebooks.

Likewise, a very important service tool for me has been a 90W Universal power adapter/charger.

90 Watts is big enough for any currently available Laptop.
Many retail stores now carry them in stock. Ask around!
I picked mine off the shelf at TigerDirect.com store in Orlando.
I've also seen them at Office MAX stores.

    Good Luck!
