Well I'm looking to get a 'nice' laptop for under a $1000.

I was looking over at Dell's website at their Inspiron 6000 series, and I found a pretty nice deal. I was wondering what you guys thought.

    Intel® Pentium® M Processor 740 (1.73GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB)
Genuine Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005
    15.4 inch WXGA LCD Panel
    60GB 5400rpmHard Drive
    24X CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive
    ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X300 64MB HyperMemory
9-cell battery (Is this worth an extra $100 over the 6-cell battery?)
    512MB Shared DDR2 SDRAM 2 Dimms

I just realized that I don't really know much about notebook memory, or DDR2 for that matter. Is the DDR2 in notebooks the same type used in regular desktops, like will http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227013 work for my laptop? Also, does anyone know how many RAM slots this laptop would have, and what the max capacity it has?

Well for all of the items checked, this came out only to $938 before taxes/shipping. I didn't sign up for any warranties or software. I think it's pretty good, this being the first budget laptop with an actual video card option over integrated graphics. If anyone knows where I can get a better deal from, please tell. Thanks.

Looks like a nice laptop. Although I don't know how valuable Media Center 2K5 is on a laptop, but that's personal preference really. If you are looking for good deals on Dell computers, go to:
    http://www.techbargains.com/dellcoupons.cfm

Every week they have new deals posted. Laptops, Desktops, Cameras, Monitors, etc.

P.S. It looks like they have your laptop for $750

Or the Inspiron 9300 for $999

laptop memory is smaller, half the size as desktop ram so not compatable. I have a laptop with a celeron cpu, never again. Slow as heck. I bought it on a wim. stupid me. It has two ram slots mybe the one your looking at has the same. The new celeron M's are much faster. Looks like a decent rig your looking at.

    hahaha

Thanks for the link Wyatt_Earp. Well XP Media Center comes as a free upgrade from XP Home, so I figured why not. From my minimal understanding from Wikipedia, its supposed to be a cross between XP Home and XP Pro with a bunch of media features, which I doubt I'll ever use, but its free so why not?

By the way, I figured out which type of RAM I need with Crucial's site. I'll probably get a gigabyte stick and mix that with one of the 256 given. It should run nicely.
