Just got a new battery, which the computer wont charge/power from, but says is good on the batter test.
I think the problem is lying within the computer, and maybe either the software for the battery, or is there a controller / chip which does this?
I am not really sure, and thought to ask you experts if you have any experience with laptops / batteries
    So the question is
is there a battery controller in the laptop?
    would it be changeable?
where an i get the part?
the laptop is a Hp pavillion ze4400.
    thanks for any help offered

Have you tried looking in the slot where the battery goes and making sure the contacts are clean? If the contacts are dirty you may not be getting enough power through to run the laptop.

    thats okay then.

are there any sort of locks on the batteries (usually a slider)

    or on the laptop itself?

try this link: hp online support for pavilion batteries

of particular interest was this advice

Disconnect the A/C power adaptor cord, remove the battery, and hold the Power button for 30 seconds. Reattach the power cord, and turn the notebook on. This will discharge and recharge the notebook system capacitors.
