Laptop battery dead?

    My laptop, compaq2500, only runs with the AC cord plugged in
    I havent used this thing in years and I'd like to start using it for notetaking in school
    so is it worth getting a new battery and I dont have(and need) powerpoint, so I can view slides on powerpoint that are "notes" from class

    or should I chuck it and buy ASUS UL30A-X5 Thin and Light 13.3-Inch Black Laptop (12 Hours of Battery Life)

    My decision would be made on the question "are you happy with it other then battery life" if not id go for a new machine, but thats the only issue, id replace the battery.
