Laptop Battery Issues

I have a dell Latitude 110L and I just recently replaced the AC adapter and batteries. I also just did a format and clean install of windows xp.

The issue is that the computer is shutting down with 24 percent battery life remaining. I have a power alarm set for a 10 percent battery life standby, but not a 24 shut down!

Any ideas?

Try a different battery power monitor; perhaps the one you are using shows 24% remaining when there is only 10% remaining.

Hmm... Interesting idea, do you know of a good one? I am just using the standard windows one... Also, this doesn't explain the issue of the system shutting down instead of going on standbye at 10%. And shouldn't windows be working off the percentage shown on it's own battery meter? :-o

I really can't answer those questions. I only have experience with two notebooks and neither run XP.
My battery meter on my eeepc (linux) warns me when my battery has about 4 minutes, tells me to close my work and shuts down the computer.
The battery on my HP notebook doesn't hold a charge so when I am running on battery, it warns me it is low and turns off.
