I have a Dell Insprion 1545 laptop which I use often at home and leave it plugged in. For about 6 months now my computer has told me that I need to consider replacing my battery and it does not charge when I have my laptop on. I was wondering if I am doing any damage to my computer by not replacing the battery. Also is there a risk in buying those cheap batteries I see on ebay?

    Hi,

Battery probably does need replacement but the Charge Lite on most, maybe all, Laptops goes out anytime the batter is showing 100% charge as it is no longer being charged. Give it a go and see how long it runs the Laptop.

    Luck, Jim

Based on personal experience - no. I have an HP laptop from 2001 that has needed a battery for 3 years (or longer). I keep it plugged in and continue to use it. I didn't want to spend the close to $100 on such an old laptop.

As far as batteries on eBay, I wouldn't go that route. There are good battery places that sell cheaper than the manufacturer. I had one written down based on recommendations posted here but can't find my note on the website.

Best way i found for laptops battery's i know my mom had this Acer Aspire 5135 she al way's kept it pluged in.In my opionion should at lest let the Battery Drain it self once a week then give it a full charge.I think that if you keep the laptop pluged in all the time you might as well as take out the battery.

I think leaving a latop with the battery in pluged in will shorten the life span of the battery.

So i would recommend at lest once a week or once every two weeks let the battery drain it self.So that it can retrain it self to hold a charge.

I gave my mom 150$ for her Acer i needed some thing for work and i am able to get 1hour and 45mins worth of battery out of it.

Be cause i started to do this.

My HP battery lasted more than 5 years and the battery is always in and the laptop plugged in except during severe electrical storms.

    Hi,

Note that the battery is not charging after it reaches 100%. How can it be damaged by leaveing it in?

Hello guys I need help... My Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop has a weird problem. the laptop does not recognize the power adaptor and hence it is not charging but when I remove the battery and keep plugged in, it shuts down. (That means battery is fine just not charging). I can not bypass the battery coz if I do, the laptop shuts down. I had to take the battery to another laptop and get it charged. When I return it back to my laptop and plug in, it displays 2500 hours remaining-not plugged in. when I remove the power adapter, it displays 2 hours remaining-not plugged in. Please help me!!!
