I have a Compaq Evo N150 laptop, which I thought had a dead battery. The laptop would immediately lose power and shut down if the AC adapter is not in use, only battery.

Therefore, I purchased a brand new battery and just received it Monday afternoon 5/24/04. I put it into the laptop to charge overnite, but the laptop is showing 0% charged after 24 hours. I am not sure what to do next or how to tell if there is an internal problem with the laptop.

Laptop is Compaq Evo N150, Windows 98 2nd edition, 184 BM RAM, 10GB hard drive, purchased 2/2002 with no extended warranty.

Please help, any suggestions are appreciate!

    Jessica,

I know this is a common question but when you say " I put the battery into the laptop to charge over nite." You had the power cord plugged in and it was turned on right?

    And if so

Is that new battery compliant with your laptop?

yes, the laptop adapter is plugged in and turned on, the battery light flashes slowly as if it would be charging, but it never shows an increase in charge.

I believe that the battery is compliant. I requested the battery from our rep with CDW, Inc and gave him the make/model/etc. Based on this info he gave me a quote for the battery which I purchased and received.

Is there a way that I can be sure that I have the correct battery?

    Thanks

    Jessica

If it's anything like my Compaq, you will have to "cycle" the new battery. In the taskbar near the clock, right click the icon that has a plug and lightening bolt. Choose "adjust power properties" On the window that opens, hit the "Compaq Power" tab. Look for the "calabrate" button, and click it. Calibration takes several hours. This will discharge the battery to zero, then begin to charge it. You only need to calibrate it the one time, then it will just take care of itself, and charge when it's plugged in from then on.
    Hope this helps.

I did have an icon in the taskbar that was a plug with a lighting bolt, and I right clicked to get the Power Management Properties. However the tabs were as follows: Power Schemes, Alarms, Power Meter, Advanced. I did not have a Compaq Power or Power tab. And I could not locate a calabrate button anywhere.

Any other ideas where the calabrate button may be?

    Thanks so much!

Did you TRY hitting the "advanced" choice, and see if it was there? I'm sure the interface itself differs somewhat from my model. But nonetheless, the calibrate option should be within the power management window somewhere.

I have the problem that Jessica had... mmm I read the forum... completed.
I've got the manual from the link (Hardware Guide from Compaq EVO N150).
I tried to calibrate the battery from the Bios (PSU), so a message appears saying..."no battery model", I think that the PC is reading SANYOHQL4 and the battery is COMPAQ,
Finally, I bought the battery yestarday and it is original.
Please, if anybody have the solution... I woul appreciate it
