Alright, so yesterday I decided I wanted to purchase a laptop. I drove to Circuit City and immediately fell in love with this Acer Aspire 5100, and bought it. Unfortunately, I rushed them through since we all know salesman, free items but only with the rebait, etc. etc. Before you read, keep in mind that the OS is Windows Vista Premium.

    The Story:

Later that night I went to my friend's home and installed everything which I needed, as well as updated it all, and you know the deal.

Finally, after 4 hours everything (thanks Verizon FiOS) was done, my laptop was now ready to enjoy. The last thing I decided to do, was install this CD that came with my laptop, "Windows Anytime Upgrade." About 1 minute later, my girlfriend called me and wanted me to drive home and hang out, so I figured I would wait till it finished. Suddenly I saw, "this will take about a few hours." My friend (w/ horrible ADD) soon enough told me to hurry up and that it's fine to take out the CD. So I took the CD out, turned off the laptop, bad idea.

I took a second look back, and turned the laptop back on to see if any damage was left. Yes, my favorite good ol' black screen, explaining that there was a problem. Start System Recovery, (all the dl/install/updating for nothing), or Start Windows Normally. Well, the starting normally brought me back to this screen, so I took it like a man and started over. I woke up the next day, went to work, came home, and turned on the laptop. It happened again, this time, both Start Windows Normally and System Recovery did NOT work.

    The Problem:

I am now stuck with several options.

    A) Startup Repair > Doesn't work, back to black screen.
    B) System Restore > No choices work, back to black screen.
    C) Windows Complete PC Restore > I didn't buy the Restore Discs.
    D) Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool > Doesn't work, back to black screen.
    E) Command Prompt > Wouldn't know enough.

No Extended Warrenty (I'm short on cash)
    No Windows Vista Experience (Sigh)

    Help would be much appreciated.

PS. Yes, this purchase came with a 15 day warrenty, but I would love to solve this before I have to drive all the way back to Circuit City and waste time. Below is the link to see the laptop specs etc.

What would a windows anytime upgrade do? Your already running vista? was it an os upgrade to a better version of vista? Perhaps more detials on what that was about would help.

Answer: Windows Anytime Upgrade (WAU) is an upgrade method offered by Microsoft and selected licensed resellers for users who wish to upgrade their edition of Windows Vista by buying a license online. This helps reduce the number of installation disks in circulation; all five editions of Vista are included on one 2.5 GB Windows Anytime Upgrade DVD.
