    Hello,

I am quite beside myself and am writing for help on my rommates insistance. My roommate feels that the LT's performance is degrading very fast and I may not be able to post this HJT log. As it is, I cannot run the read me first tutorial steps so, apologies that I couldn't follow protocol.

The problem started 3 days ago - I had just installed WoW's Wrath of the Lich King, updated my acct info and made sure I had all the needed patches to play. Everything was fine AND dandy, had my fill and decided to take a break. I closed the lid, LT (laptop) went into sleep mode and so did I. About an hour or so later my roommate woke me and said "I keep hearing a faint beep and it seems to be coming from your LT". Sure enough it was and when I opened the lid everything appeared to be in order so I turned off the LT since I wasn't going to use it for awhile anyhow. Went I did goto restart it, it took about 3 times to get it going and only then I got a message basically saying that there was a problem starting the LT and did I want to start up the machine from a prior date before there was an issue. At first I said 'no' thinking I could figure out what the problem was but after much frustration I chose to revert the LT to the most current date/time before the problem.

I rebooted, all was fine and now yesterday afternoon after playing for some time and having taken a break, I started up my LT only to find it crawling slower than a foreigner trying to find the translation for 'supercalifragilisticexpealidocious' in the swahili dialect in a mandarin dictionary (no offense to anyone) - my dead grandmother could've won an Olympic medal in any race faster >:<

I tried running Malwarebytes that I had recently downloaded from your site only to keep getting error messages. None of the my quick launch shortcuts worked. I even went to the start-programs menu and could not get anything to run - the programs would seemingly start up and then I kept getting "Not Responding" coming up on EVERTHING i would try and run - including task manager. When trying to open control panel and windows explorer I would get "internet explorer" not being able to open messages. I tried to get the LT to revert once more to a prior date/time only to get a message saying there are no prior dates to go back to - anytime I do a Windows Update or any kind of update I get a "creating a restoration point" or some such message... I turned off the LT and walked away before taking a hammer to it.

I awoke early this morning and it took 5 times to get the LT to startup to safe mode life which I am running at the moment (with networking support). I was finally able to download and run Hijack This (log attached) I was also able to update my Spybot but unable to get it to run even in safe mode.

PLEEZE, how can I get this issue fixed before I pull out my last graying hair?? I have also attached my systems' info doc. I bought the LT on 1/15/09 and have not had ANY problems with it. I am a stickler to make sure I have the latest updates etc. for it also. Thank you so much in advance for any help in this matter.

    - a very frustrated BooCat =(

hello again - i tried to edit my post but could not, anyway...

FYI, i'm posting this from my roommates' pc.

i got the tutorial to come up and was following step by step - i got to the part where it said to download some programs to do the vista cleaning (running 64bit so combo fix and root repeal not downloaded - superanti, malwarebytes and mg tools successfully downloaded) - i got all the way to disabling user controls and it asked for a restart - i followed the instructions and restarted my machine and now i only get 2 choices: startup repair or start windows normally. starting up normally will bring me to the black screen of death and choosing the repair gets the laptop crawling again though now i have a window asking me to make a choice of the following:

    startup repair
    system restore
    windows complete pc restore
    windows memory diagnostic tool
    command prompt
    recovery manager

i also show a choice at the bottom of the screen to shutdown or restart the machine. i have tried several times to restart to hopefully bring up the safe mode choices but have been unsuccessful - the option isn't there, only what i stated above. i'm not sure how to proceed from here as i am unable to bring up any files to continue with the tutorial.

thank you for your time...again - BooCat
