    Windows vista home premium.

The other day it froze on me. So i restarted it. would not turn on. Screen is black. All the keyboard lights come on and it sounds like its turning on then reboots ever 20-30secs about. So i took battery out and let it sit for 10 min's and it turned on. but then my wireless did not work. so i took battery off and went to bed. Now it wont turn on at all. just rebooting and rebooting. please help? is something bad? mother board?

Right after you see the HP logo, and right before Vista tries to start, press the F8 key repeatedly until you get a Boot Options menu. Select "Disable automatic restart on system failure" and boot up by pressing Enter. The system should stop on an error screen instead of continually rebooting. Make a note of all the info on this error screen: the error number (looks like 0x000000ED for example), any message (a common one is IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL) and any file name listed. Post the info here and we'll try to help. Also, if you have a Vista install disc you can boot to it and use the different start-up repair features to try to fix the issue.
    :-D
    Good luck! Keep us posted!

(BTW- the DV series and the D series of HP/Compaq laptops are notorious for having issues with the wifi just disappearing; the front switch stays orange, the wifi no longer appears in the device manager or anywhere else, and opening up the PC and installing a new wifi card doesn't fix the problem either; I have worked on at least 15 of these laptops with this wifi issue and only one was fixable without requiring a board-level component repair)

thats for the reply. the screen wont turn on at all anymore. So i cant even hit f8. I did disable rebooting when it crashes when it did work so it cant be that. Im lost.

Unfortunately this seems to be a common problem with the HP dv6000.
My buddies gf's computer (same model) just experienced the same problem. It appears to be related to the fact that the AMD processor tends to run hotter than its intel counterparts, and in this laptop the design didnt account for it sufficiently.
A whole host of problems is common with this laptop, usually starting with the wireless card failing, then months later the whole computer failing as you describe, being in a reboot loop, never reaching POST.

Do an internet search on HP DV6000 problems. You'll find lots of people who had/have the same problem as you. I think I recall reading somewhere about HP offering an extended warranty or something to deal with this. Seems to me to be a feel good type thing. Perhaps someone else has additional information.

What I meant by my statement , "A feel good thing" regarding HP's warranty extension/enhancement, is that most owners of the HP dv6000 will never see any news of this until after they suffer damage, yet HP can make the claim "we've addressed the issue".

From what I've read, HP's customer support on this issue has not been very good, despite the simple looking procedure listed in Plodr's link.

HP feels good...not the owner of one of these laptops...
Did HP notify they owners that these laptops have potential problems? Or was it more like a notice posted in the basement of a government building which also has broken stairs?

The bios fix they offer seems to simply keep the fan running constantly.
