Laptop doesn't boot& slowed down-Please help

Kind people,

I have an Acer Travelmate 4021.Recently, I installed Mcaffee Security Suite and the latest DirectX from Microsoft. My laptop was working very smooth and fast.Then a few days back it became suddenly so slow, I got irritated and switched it off.Since then, it would not boot except in Safe Mode.Then, today it booted normally but does not connect to internet or allows any programme to start.There was a message the the system recovered from a very serious error.Takes ages to open any window.Tried System Restore.It closes down with an error message.Does not start.Cannot turn it off too.Have to switch it off. Please help.Cannot afford a new laptop now.Appreciate any help.Thank you in advance.

Turn off McAfee - deactivate completely it if you can. Can you access the internet now? Did you ever have any Norton/Symantec on that machine? Comodo? This sounds a lot like residue from old uninstalled security software. Some companies should pay a fine for not being able to produce a proper uninstaller!

 

And plus if your computer is still slowing down try this program to speed it up.

I had Symantec earlier and I removed it before I installed McAfee Security Suite. I don;t know whether installing McAfee played havoc with my system or I turning it off using the power switch.

I completely removed the McAfee software yet my system is running extremely slow.Cannot access internet,cannot open an internet browser. Could not even turn the firewall on.There are errors popping up everytime I am trying to do something. When I try to restart it, it fails to start saying ''Fatal error.Failed to log on''. When I switch it off and start, it boots.Any major software problem? Thank you for your help.

Thank you for your reply. On a previous instance, I downloaded the programme from download.com and my system completely collapsed.Had to reformat. I am quite vary now.

Re my present troubles, I have scheduled a disk check and there were hundreds of errors that Windows has been correcting. However, at Stage 4, after 42% or so, Disc check fails saying

Stop:c000021a Unknown Hard Error

I really don't know what caused this. However, there were quite a few errors involving Google Chrome, my browser. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Sounds like a Bad hard drive to me un-repair able.
But i could be wrong.
My 160gig just gave me this kinda problem where it will not go past a serton point on the drive then just stops so that's what i am thinking .If he computer is more then 3years old the drive could be and the end of it's life span.But i would have an expert look at it.

 

Hi, thanks for the reply. Mine is roughly 3 1/2 years old. Is there a way to save the data, my photos,music,documents etc, before I change the drive? I can still see them.Only, any attempt to copy them takes ages. Thank you for your help.

Hi, thank you for your reply. I shall check the drive as you suggested and I thank you for the practical suggestions. I did not use the official removal tool to uninstall the Norton and McAfee.I mereky uninstalled them using the add/remove programme. I ran the disc check a few times with the same result. I shall try again and post the results here.Thank you.

Hello everyone,

I wanted to update all of you who tried to help me.The service engineer informed me that the hard drive has perished and requires a new one. I shall replace the drive soon. I wonder why it died at a relatively early age of 3 1/2 years!
