Laptop doesn't recognize wifi

I have a Gateway NE56. Yesterday, it decided that it didn't want to use WIFI. It says "no connections found" I plugged it in and can get online fine hardwired. It's not my wifi because I have a Nexus and it is connecting normally through wifi.

Several times when I rebooted (which has been a lot) the past 2 days, it will connect to wifi only to have it go off line minutes later.

I have read intensively (hours and hours) and haven't found this exact problem addressed any where. I have tons of info on system info and such, but not sure how much ya'll want.

I am so hoping ya'll will say "Nothing to it, Katz! We can talk you right through it. I don't want it to be a network card or something in the innards

Any help would be appreciated.

 

The bad news: Since it's connecting then disconnecting by itself, it sounds like you're internal WiFi card may be going bad.

The good news: You can buy an inexpensive USB WiFi adapter to fix things, like this one:

(This is a brand/model I sell at my computer shop, and I've had good luck with it.)

If you get one of these, you'll need to go into CONROL PANEL > DEVICE MANAGER (Vista/7) or CONTROL PANEL >SYSTEM > DEVICE MANAGER (XP) and disable the internal WiFi adapter.

I am going to agree on this one....sounds very much like a failed wifi card....but the USB wifi sticks these days are pretty good. I use one on my desktop and it has been fine for over a year now.
