Ok so I just recently did a system restore on my laptop. The recovery discs that came with it were not working for some reason, so I tried the recovery discs that go with my moms computer, and now everything seems to be working except that it randomly freezes up.

I have an HP laptop which I recently upgraded from xp to windows 7 with help from my mom's acer recovery discs.

The computer is freshly restored so there's no programs that have affected it yet, I tried installing avg 9.0 but that didn't find any problems. I also tried booting it in safe mood but the problem still occured.

i'm wondering if the amount of ram is the cause of this. Right now I have 1 gb. Anyways any help that you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

I would add more ram if possible.

Clean out your startup files and programs. If your laptop continues to freeze and you are looking for a long-term solution, then start removing programs.

    I use ccleaner. tools/startup/ highlight/delete

    Or MS support:
