Laptop froze just black screen & no boot

Was browsing the web and my 3 year old Samsung NC20 laptop just froze. Couldn't get any movement so turned off, waited a minute and turned back on. Now when pressing the start button there appears to be no boot up, the screen remains black, the only LED's lit up are the 'on' and the charging/charged LED's, the fan whirs and gets hot but there is no other sign of life.

Have so far tried taking out and reinstalling the battery, memory module and HD but no change.

Would appreciate any assistance in resolving this issue.

 

I do not know if this will solve the problem but try this. Unplug the computer, remove the battery. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. Plug it back in but keep the battery out. Then try booting.

 

Hey tgell thanks for the suggestion; tried that earlier today as suggested by a friend but no luck. Same result, unfortunately.
