Hi my laptop every now and then gets a blue screen and shuts down and restarts, been strange going ons, plus a couple times Ive logged in and the date is way back to 2006. I have a ASUS A6R series and run XP... and suggestions here, when the laptop comes back on it checks for Fat files or something, sorry Im not really techi with the workings of computers.:confused
    Thanks

This is indicative that the internal battery needs replacing. this battery is a small coin cell, not the main laptop power battery.

Get a quote or three to find a reliable repairman as I've heard of some silly prices to replace these - they are only a couple of dollars each, but inserting can be tricky.

Thanks for that answer. Will go get some prices, I wouldnt attempt to try to fix myself:)

Would that be why a blue screen comes up also?

The coin cell maintains supply to a small memory store called 'the CMOS', even when the computer is off.
This store holds essential configuration information, which is lost when the battery runs down.
As that that happens progressively the system becomes unstable and all sorts of errors can happen, including blue screens. Finally the system may not start at all with a totally flat cell.
The date error is non fatal and usually an early diagnostic.
