I dual-boot Ubuntu and XP. While running Ubuntu my laptop get pretty hot. Heat is not an issue for me on XP. If I can solve this problem, I'm going to drop XP all together.

I've searched around on the net for fixes. All threads seem to suggest running lm-sensors and hddtemp. I've gotten them installed but always get errors when I try to set them up and run them.

Anyone have experience with these aps or how to lower my temps in Ubuntu?

    Thanks!

Oh wow! Where are you getting the temperature information from? BIOS or from the operating system? I can't imagine Linux putting a greater demand on the system than XP!

I don't actually know the temps for sure. I can just feel the heat difference with my hand.

As a sort of "test" I played around in ubuntu for a while and then quickly rebooted into windows and ran Everest. Everest gave me a CPU temp of 56 C, so I'm making an educated guess that my CPU reaches about 60 C while running Ubuntu.

Now that I've been in XP for a bit, by CPU is at about 46 C.

btw, I can't access temp info from my BIOS.
