just installed windows xp pro on my Toshiba satellite A10 notebook, i have tried to download drivers from the toshiba website for the Ethernet connection (and other drivers) so i can update them all it wont work, so i thought it might be because i dont have SP1 installed. I tried to download it from my desktop but cant find it anywhere, it seems like Microsoft have discontinued it.
It redirected me to download SP3 but i know you cant load that until pervious SP have been installed.
So i have a notebook that cant connect to the internet and wont load any drivers or SP that i try to install on it that i have downloaded on a different computer

    Help :cry

So, you burned the ethernet driver to disc, inserted it in the laptop, ran Device Manager, went to update driver, and selected the file on said disc?

Which Service Pack would your installation discs be?

I downloaded the files to a usb stick then loaded it on to the laptop that way

Not sure what you mean when you say "Which Service Pack would your installation discs be?"

Are your XP discs SP1 or SP2?

From what I read at Microsoft you can install SP3 directly without doing SP1 and SP2 first. Look at the system requirements (ie. XP Home/Pro, Xp SP1, XP SP2--it appears legit for any of these) You would want the full pack (314mb) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...A8-5E76-401F-BE08-1E1555D4F3D4&displaylang=en

*I couldn't even find SP1 on the Microsoft website. Which really leads to believe I am correct that SP2 or SP3 contains SP1. I would just do SP3 and get it over with since yours is a fresh install, so if any problems you don't have much loaded yet anyway.

Yeah, but the laptop has no ethernet connection for some reason. Next questions were going to be "What do you see when you open Device Manager under Network Adapters?"

Then we go to Network Connections...

In device manager, is there an exclamation point by the network adapter, and what is the name of the ethernet adapter?

Nice! Oh well, when you get the chance, find the make and model of the adapter, and try using the manufacturer's driver.

Also, which A10 model do you have?

yer tried that to, i had the same problem as Sp3, telling me that i needed SP1 before i could install any other SP :confused

SP1a would be the same as SP1. http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/Windows-XP-Service-Pack-SP1a.shtml (Microsoft did stop providing SP1 and SP1a for download but softpedia should be safe).

I was wrong about SP3, you need either SP1 or SP2 installed before SP3 will go.
SP2 should install even without SP1a but I guess you could try SP1a.

    *******
Is this the ethernet driver you tried? Does the tag on the bottom of your laptop give any numbers after A10 in the model number?
