Laptop Intermittently Shuts Prematurely On Battery

System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Laptop: ASUS K52F with 500GB SSD


My new battery can power the laptop for many hours. But occasionally - and this is intermittent with no apparent pattern - the laptop will shut down after only 20 minutes when on battery. Why?

The laptop is 6 years old. The original battery was only lasting 20 minutes so I purchased a new battery: 48Wh, 4400mAh
I followed the instruction on how to calibrate the battery:
Charge the new battery to 100% - disconnect AC supply until laptop shuts down - then charge battery to 100%
I did this 3 times per the instructions that came with the battery.

So why does the battery intermittently shut the laptop after 20 minutes when most of the time the laptop runs for hours on the battery?

 

As Plodr says- I agree, as I have had poor batteries in my time, too. Also, I have found that it seems to be better NOT to calibrate batteries, as Ihave seen them become like that, and pretty useless. When I just put a new battery in and charge, use until recharge needed, and recharge/discharge again about 3 times, aand had no bother.
