Laptop invisible to network.

Laptop invisible to network.

We have about 5 laptops linking to a server running Small Business Server 2003.

The laptops are all running XP Professional SP3.

One of the laptops is invisible to the rest although that laptop can see all of the other computers and the server.

By that I mean that in Windows Explorer by opening “ My Network Places / Entire Network / Microsoft Windows Network/ Our LAN,” I get a list of all the computers on the network EXCEPT the offending laptop.

If I perform the same operation on the offending laptop the same thing happens – It does not even list itself in the list of connected computers.

The offending Laptop can access the network see the data on the database etc.

I suspect there is a control somewhere on the laptop or the server but I am at a loss where to look

Any help will be appreciated and acknowledged.

start simple first as i had server that played hide and seek with the domain list. is the laptop in the same domain/workgroup as the others?

The offending laptop is out of the office today - I will investigate next week and get back to you.

check the network settings on the offending laptop. Look at workgroup, and NETBIOS over TCP/IP
