I went through a phase where I kept trying different operating systems, tons of different ones.

After installing different operating systems (alternating between Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 7), I had installed Ubuntu and everything was super slow to load, GUI, everything. I tried reinstalling, and it took hours when it usually took 30 minutes reading from the disk. I had also tried Windows XP. I have now replaced my laptop's HDD with an SSD and still am having the same problems, please help!

    Computer Problems. Please read!

Basically, my Compaq 6910p is very slow to load my OS. I've tried replacing the HDD with an SSD which helped a tiny bit, but the computer is totally unsuable because of how long it takes to load. I'm currently using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I upgraded the RAM to 4GB and replaced a 5400RPM 160GB HDD with a 160GB SSD. I've tried changing around things in my BIOS and nothing works, please help!

What are you using to compare the speed of this machine with a Cetrino chipset? In other words, are you just assuming that it is running slow, or do you have a similar machine with the same setup running next to it, and running some kind of benchmarking?

I run 12.04 on my netbook and I will tell you this, that it seems to me that it runs faster than Windows 7. Of course I also have a SSD in it, so I perceive that it is faster with Ubuntu now, than it did with the platter drive.

Hi Xourii, "must be a hardware problem"
I had a similar problem with my laptop slowing down and even not starting! I also reinstalled windows etc. The problem did not go away until I installed speed fan and noticed that the temps were really high 80+ so i striped the laptop down and cleaned it and it has not been a problem since! The machine is now very responsive. I do not know if this your problem but it worked for me!:)
My laptop is A Compac Presario A900 with 2 gb of Ram, took the oportunity upgrade to 3gb during stripdown.:cool
