    Hello all.

I'm not sure what else to do with a friends laptop. So I thought I'd come and ask some of you whizz's here.

A friends laptop, upon booting gets the "No operating system found" message.

I've taken the HD out and tried it in another laptop, it works just fine, and I've tried other working HD's in the laptop, but I'm getting the same message.

In the Bios, it doesn't seem to have the HD listed anywhere, it's all connected fine, but nothing.

Does anyone have any idea what might be going wrong here? any help would be greatly appreciated.

So, taking the hdd out of that computer into a new one and it boots?
That computer doesn't boot with original hdd?
That sounds like a hardware issue.
    My guess Ram.
There are better hardware geeks than I am, hopefully they will come by to help ye.

First thing you might want to try, is changing the data cable that hooks directly to the hard drive.

This sounds like a motherboard issue with the EIDE/SATA channel/port. As it is a laptop, there is no data cable to replace. If you have access to a DriveWire style tool, you could hook it up via USB (provided this laptop will boot via USB), and see if you can boot. I haven't tried it yet, but if you have a 32GB flash drive, you could possibly boot Windows 7 by installing the OS on it.

What is the make/model of this laptop?

Thank you very much for the replies.

The laptop is an Advent 8215p

When you state "upon booting gets the "No operating system found" message", and that the drive works fine in another laptop, 1) what are the manufacturer & model #'s of the laptops, and 2) what is the operating system installed on the hard drive in question?
