Have a laptop with a PCMCIA USB adaptor - these things generally require a 5V input to enable USB2 speeds - I don't have a 5V - would 4.5V work or is it volt sensitive?

4.5V should work. Since its less I don't see any harm trying it to see.

I did try it but noticed no difference in transfer speeds
